How to Apply Online PAN Card Application

Application for fresh allotment of a new PAN card are often made through Internet. Further, requests for changes or correction in existing PAN card data or request for reprint of existing PAN card (for an existing PAN) can also be made through Internet. Online application are often made either through the portal of NSDL (https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/index.html) or portal of UTITSL (https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN/index.jsp ). the fees for applying for new PAN Card Application is Rupees. 93 (Excluding Goods and Services tax ) for Indian communication address and Rupees. 864 (Excluding Goods and Services tax) for foreign communication address. Payment of application fee are often made through credit/debit card, demand draft or net-banking. Once the application and payment is accepted, the applicant is required to send the supporting documents through courier/post to NSDL/UTITSL. Only after the receipt of the documents, new PAN Card Application would be processed by NSDL/UTITSL.

For New PAN card applications, just in case of Individual and HUF applicants if Address for Communication is chosen as Office, then Proof of Office Address along side Proof of residential address is to be submitted to NSDL with effect from applications made on and after 1st November 2009.

As per RBI guidelines, the entities making e-commerce transactions are required to supply PIN (Personal Identification Number) while executing an internet transaction. Therefore, before making payment for online PAN/TAN applications using Credit Mastercard / debit card / net banking, applicant is required to get PIN from Banks whose credit card/debt card/net banking is getting used .

Apply Online PAN Card Application

With effect from April 08, 2012, new PAN Card applications are required to be furnished within the new forms prescribed by ITD. Indian citizens will need to submit their ‘Application for allotment of new PAN’ in revised Form 49A only. Foreign citizens will need to submit their ‘Application for allotment of new PAN’ in newly notified Form 49AA only.

For New PAN card applications, just in case of Individual and HUF applicants if Address for Communication is chosen as Office, then Proof of Office Address along side Proof of residential address is to be submitted to NSDL e-Gov with effect from the applications made on and after 1st November 2009.

Application for allotment of new PAN (Form 49A) – applicable for Citizens of India

This form should be used when the applicant has never applied for a PAN card or doesn't have PAN card allotted to him. An applicant can visit taxation Department (ITD) website to seek out whether a PAN card has been allotted to him or not.

Reprint of Existing PAN Card

This application should be used when PAN card has already been allotted to the applicant but applicant requires a PAN card. a replacement PAN card bearing the same PAN card details is issued to the applicant.

  • (A) for new PAN card applications, the applicants can now apply online for Reprint of PAN card (only when there's no change required in data) by clicking here (https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/ReprintEPan.html). This facility is merely available for those PAN card holders whose latest PAN card application was processed through NSDL e-Gov and / or e-Filing portal of taxation Department. Option for update of PAN card details won't be available through this facility.
  • (B) If the communication address of an applicant as per latest records available with NSDL e-Gov is an Indian address, then applicant must make an internet fee payment of ₹50 (inclusive of taxes) and if it's a foreign address, then payment of ₹959 (inclusive of taxes) has got to be made by the applicant.
  • (C) there's no requirement of submitting any form along side supporting documents for processing this PAN card reprint request. Kindly click on guidelines to understand more.

Alternatively, an applicant can apply for a reprinted PAN card through normal online PAN card application mode whose details are given below. While filling this type , applicant shouldn't select any of the check boxes on the left margin of the form. However, the check box for Item no. 7 Address for communication are going to be selected by default as this address are going to be updated within the records of ITD.

Change/Correction in PAN Card Data

This application should be used when PAN Card has already been allotted to the applicant but applicant wants to make change/correction in PAN Card data. a replacement PAN card bearing identical PAN with updated details are going to be issued to applicant.

Appropriate check boxes in front of the relevant core details (i.e. name, father’s name, date of birth) should be selected, so as to update the information.

Documents Required to Apply Online New PAN Card Application

For Individuals & HUF

Individual applicants should provide proof of residential address. If the applicant may be a minor (i.e. below 18 years aged at the time of application), any of the documents as per the lists specified below of any of the parents/ guardian of such minor shall be deemed to be the proof of identity and address of the applicant. Indian Citizens (including those located outside India)

Proof of Identity

(i) Copy of any of the undermentioned documents bearing name of the applicant as mentioned within the application:-

a. Aadhaar Card issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India; or

b. Elector’s photo identity card; or

c. Driving License; or

d. Passport

e. ration card having photograph of the applicant; or

f. Arm’s license; or

g. Photo identity card issued by the Central Government or State Government Authorities or Public Sector Undertaking; or

h. Pensioner card having photograph of the applicant; or

i. Central Government Health Scheme Card or Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme photo card

(ii) Certificate of identity in Original signed by a Member of Parliament or Member of legislative assembly or Municipal Councilor or a Gazetted officer

(iii) Bank certificate in Original on letter head from the branch(along with name and stamp of the issuing officer) containing duly attested photograph and bank account number of the applicant

Note:

1. just in case of Minor, any of the above mentioned documents as proof of identity and address of any of parents/guardians of such minor shall be deemed to be the proof of identity and address for the minor applicant.

2. For HUF, an affidavit made by the Karta of Hindu Undivided Family stating name, father’s name and address of all the coparceners on the date of application and copy of any of the above documents within the name of Karta of HUF is required is required as proof of identity, address and date of birth.

Proof of Address

(i) Copy of any of the undermentioned documents bearing the address mentioned within the application:-

a. Aadhaar Card issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India; or

b. Elector’s photo identity card; or

c. Driving License; or

d. Passport

e. Passport of the spouse; or

f. Post office passbook having address of the applicant; or

g. Latest land tax assessment order; or

h. Domicile certificate issued by the Government; or

i. Allotment letter of accommodation issued by the Central Government or State Government Authorities of not more than three years old; or

j. Property Registration Document; or

(ii) Copy of following documents of not more than three months old

(a) Electricity Bill; or

(b) Landline Telephone or Broadband connection bill; or

(c) Water Bill; or

(d) Consumer gas connection card or book or piped gas bill; or

(e) bank account statement or as per Note 2 ; or

(f) Depository account statement; or

(g) credit card statement; or

(iii) Certificate of address signed by a Member of Parliament or Member of legislative assembly or Municipal Councilor or a Gazetted officer

(iv) Employer certificate in original

Note:

1. Proof of Address is required for residence address mentioned in item no. 7.

2. just in case of an Indian citizen residing outside India, copy of bank account Statement in country of residence or copy of Non-resident External (NRE) bank account statements (not quite three months old) shall be the proof of address.

Proof of date of birth

Copy of any of the undermentioned documents bearing the name, date, month and year of birth of the applicant as mentioned within the application:-

a. Aadhaar card issued by the Unique Identification Authority of 

India; or

b. Elector’s photo identity card; or

c. Driving License; or

d. Passport

e. Matriculation certificate or Mark sheet of recognized board; or

f. birth certificate issued by the municipal authority or any office authorized to issue birth and death certificate by the Registrar of Birth and Deaths or the Indian Consulate as defined in clause (d) of sub-section (1) of section 2 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 (57 of 1955); or

g. Photo identity card issued by the Central Government or State Government Authorities or Central Public Sector Undertaking or State Public Sector Undertaking; or

h. Domicile certificate issued by the Government; or

i. Central Government Health Service Scheme photo card or Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme photo card; or

j. Pension payment order; or

k. Marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriages; or

l. Affidavit sworn before a magistrate stating the date of birth.

For Categories other than Individuals & HUF i.e. Firm, BOI, AOP, AOP (Trust), local authority, Company, limited liability Partnership, Artificial Juridical Person

List of documents which are acceptable as proof of identity and address for applicants other than individual and HUF is as below:

Having office of their own in India:

Company - Copy of certificate of registration issued by Registrar of Companies.

Partnership Firm - Copy of certificate of registration issued by Registrar of firms or Copy of Partnership Deed.

Limited Liability Partnership - Copy of Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of LLPs

Association of Persons (Trust) - Copy of deed of trust or copy of certificate of registration number issued by Charity Commissioner.

Association of Person, Body of individuals, local authority, or Artificial Juridical Person - Copy of Agreement or copy of certificate of license number issued by charity commissioner or registrar of cooperative society or the other competent authority or the other document originating from any Central or State Government Authorities Department establishing identity and address of such person.

Having no office of their own in India:

Company/Firms/Limited Liability Partnership/AOP (Trusts)/AOP/ BOI/Local Authority/Artificial Juridical Person :-

(a) Copy of Certificate of Registration issued within the country where the applicant is located, duly attested by “Apostille” (in respect of the countries which are signatories to The Hague Convention of 1961) or by the Indian Embassy or High Commission or Consulate within the country where the applicant is located or authorized officials of overseas branches of Scheduled Banks registered in India.

(b) Copy of registration certificate issued in India or of approval granted to set up office in India by Indian Authorities.

Mode of Payment to Apply Online PAN Card Application

Payment could also be made online using Credit / debit card and Net-banking facility. Alternatively, the payment could also be made by Demand draft drawn in favour of ‘NSDL-PAN’ payable at Mumbai.

Summary of Supporting documents

  • Proof of Identity (POI), Proof of Address (POA) and Proof of Date of Birth (PODB) as per Rule 114(4) of tax Rules, 1962
  • Proof of AADHAAR (Copy of AADHAAR Card), if AADHAAR is mentioned.

* Note: For above mentioned PAN Card applications submitted online using physical mode, additional UIDAI charges notified by UIDAI for Aadhaar Authentication services vide UIDAI notification no. 1 of 2019 dated March 6, 2019 would be levied along side applicable tax.

**Note: For above mentioned e-KYC along side e-Sign and e-Sign scanned based PAN card application, additional e-Sign charges and UIDAI charges notified by UIDAI for Aadhaar e-KYC & Aadhaar Authentication services vide UIDAI notification no. 1 of 2019 dated March 6, 2019 would be levied along side applicable tax. 

Important Check Points while Applying Online PAN Card Application

  • No initials/abbreviations to be utilized in name/father’s name (except for Middle name).
  • No prefixes like Dr, Col, Major, etc. should be mentioned in ‘Name’, father’s name and ‘Name to be printed on card’ fields.
  • Representative Assessee (RA) details mandatory for minor/lunatic/idiot/deceased cases.
  • POI, POA and PODB should indicate precisely the same name as mentioned within the application.

How to apply for brand new PAN Card Application Online?

  1. Paperless online PAN card application facility based on eSign (i.e. Aadhaar based e-Signature) and Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) has been provided to applicant enabling PAN applicants to furnish their application for brand spanking new PAN card online, upload scanned images of supporting documents, photo & signature and digitally sign the application online.
  2. No physical documents are required to be sent by the PAN applicants for eSign and DSC based PAN card applications.
  3. Alternatively, applicant may prefer to process online PAN card application by forwarding application documents physically as given below:

  5. Save and take a print out of the acknowledgement receipt.
  6. The duly signed and photos affixed acknowledgement receipt along with prescribed supporting documents should be sent to ‘INCOME TAX PAN SERVICES UNIT (Managed by NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited)’ at 5th Floor Mantri Sterling , Plot No.341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune-411 016.
  7. The 15 digit acknowledgement no. appearing on the acknowledgement receipt are often used for tracking status of application.

How am I able to get new PAN card in 2 days?

  • Do attach Proof of Identity (POI), Proof of Address (POA) and Proof of Date of Birth (PODB - for Individual & HUF) as per Rule 114 (4) of taxation Rules, 1962.
  • Do provide the POI, POA and PODB which have name exactly as written within the application.
  • Do provide details of Representative Assessee in column 14 of application form, if applicant is Minor, Idiot, Lunatic or Deceased.
  • Do provide POI and POA for Representative Assessee also, if Representative Assessee is appointed.
  • Do write the whole postal address within the application with landmark.
  • Do mention correct pin code within the address field.
  • Do mention phone number / e- mail id within the application.

Don'ts

  • Do not overwrite or make corrections within the application.
  • Do not pin or staple the photograph.
  • Do not sign across the box (i.e. signature should be within the box)
  • Do not provide POI and POA which aren't within the name of the applicant.
  • Do not write any additional details (date, designation, rank, etc.) along side the signature within the box.
  • Do not mention Husband's name within the Father's Name column.
  • Do not abbreviate your name or don't use initials.
  • Do not apply for a new PAN Card if you have already got one.
